# Search free stock video

> One search across 23 video sites (NASA Image and Video Library, NASA Scientific Visualization Studio, Wikimedia Commons, Internet Archive, plus deep links into Pexels, Pixabay and paid stock libraries) for b-roll, backgrounds, nature, cities, space, science and archive films, with a poster, a playable preview, resolution, orientation, length and a licence verdict on every result.

The search page (https://video.shep.bot/search) is an interactive app. Every search is a URL, and the same parameters work on the JSON API:

Video is never streamed through the server: posters, previews and the player load straight from the source sites.

## Parameters

| Parameter | Meaning |
| --- | --- |
| `q` | Free text, the way an editor describes a shot: `ocean waves at sunset`, `4k vertical drone city`, `rocket launch slow motion`. Resolution (`4k`, `1080p`), orientation (`vertical`, `9:16`), length (`10s`) and frame rate (`60fps`) words become filters. |
| `category` | Comma-separated categories (below). A parent matches its children. |
| `style` | `timelapse`, `slow-motion`, `loop`, `animation`, `visualization`, `black-white`. Ranked first; filtered only with `strict=true`. |
| `orientation` | `landscape`, `portrait` (vertical, 9:16) or `square`. |
| `min_resolution` | Short side in pixels: `720`, `1080`, `1440`, `2160` (or `hd`, `fhd`, `4k`). A vertical 1080×1920 clip counts as 1080. |
| `min_duration`, `max_duration` | Length in seconds. |
| `min_fps` | Minimum frame rate, e.g. `50` for slow-motion headroom. |
| `audio` | `true` / `false`: only clips with or without a sound track. |
| `commercial` | `true`: only clips cleared for commercial use (verdict `yes` or `yes-with-credit`). Editorial-only clips can still appear: check `license.editorial`. |
| `free` | `true`: no paid clips. |
| `downloadable` | `true`: only clips with direct file links. |
| `strict` | `true`: drop clips whose orientation, resolution, length or fps is unknown when you filter on them. |
| `providers` | Source ids, e.g. `nasa,wikimediacommons`. |
| `clip` | Opens one clip's player and details, e.g. `clip=nasa:<id>` (web only). |
